Help us to raise £220,000
The venture to save Killearnan Church and Hall for use by the local community.
The days are numbered for an historic Black Isle church as a place of worship as the Church of Scotland continues to reassess the number of buildings and ministers it can afford to keep.
Under the Presbytery of Ross’s new mission plan, historic Killearnan Church near Redcastle will be one of those sold along with its hall unless there is a change of heart by the Kirk authorities.
The Kirk at Killearnan is a community-led working group formed in October 2024 by local residents and congregation members, with a clear aim: to purchase the Church and Hall for the lasting benefit of the area from the Church of Scotland.
Our vision is to create an inclusive, sustainable community hub serving Killearnan, the surrounding rural communities, and the wider region.
Situated on the Black Isle in the Scottish Highlands, just 10 miles from Inverness, the Hall sits beside the Church with open ground between them. Together, they offer ideal spaces for social gatherings, talks, group activities, meetings, and private events. An upstairs room provides further flexible space, and our goal is to maximise the use of both buildings for community life.
Dating back to the 1390s, the Church is rich in historical and cultural significance. We are committed to preserving the Church and churchyard for future generations. Of particular interest to the descendants of the Mackenzies of Redcastle, the building also has strong potential as a visitor and heritage attraction.
With its large internal space, the Church is perfectly suited to exhibitions, concerts, weddings, funerals, fairs, celebrations and cultural events.
If you would like to be a member of the group and have a vote in what we are trying to achieve and a say in the development of this project and live within the Killearnan Community Council boundary area please download and complete our membership form.

While we are pursuing grant funding, we still need as much support as we can get to bring this vision fully to life, so if you feel you can help us financially please get in touch.
Killearnan Church History
Killearnan Parish Church, the church or cell of the Columbian missionary St. Iurnan, sits in a tranquil rural setting on the southern slopes of the Black Isle overlooking the Beauly Firth.
Funding Feasability Report
Both buildings together provide scope as a viable and practical community centre with multiple uses but one building without the other would render the project unviable.
